Valentine's Date at Mount Batulao

Image
Travel Date: February 14, 2014      It was Valentine’s.  That day most couples were celebrating in restaurants, hotels, and resorts.  But we want to spend our heart’s day in a different way, so we opted to climb Mount Batulao, a favorite day hike among adventure enthusiasts and mountaineers located in Nasugbu, Batangas.  Just 2 hours away from Manila and near to Tagaytay, we did this trail for only a day.      Mount Batulao has an elevation of 813 meters.  A good start for beginners, but not the easiest mountain to hike.  So a day trip can be really tiring.  You only have 15 to 30 minutes to rest, then it’s time again to move on.       It was my first time to hike a mountain, but not for my boyfriend.  Also, I don’t have a proper clothes and shoes.  My body was not prepared for this, but I’m determined to reach the highest peak.  There were times that I hold on to grasses an...

Mount Pinatubo “The Sleeping Giant”

Image
Travel Date: February 24, 2013       When I was just a little girl, I remembered how the Mount Pinatubo erupted in 1991 during the rainy days of June.  It was known as a sleeping giant that awakens after centuries of being dormant.  The eruption was so strong that we even received an ash fall in Alaminos, Pangasinan.  I will not elaborate how much destruction it created.  But today, its crater is a beautiful lake to behold.  A popular tourist destination, not to be missed by an adventure seeker like us.      From Angeles City, we drove for an hour to reach Sta. Juliana, Capas, Tarlac.  Upon reaching the town, we registered and paid at the Tourism Office for our 4x4 ride and tour guide.  We were supposed to meet fellow couch surfers during that time, but they arrived earlier than us.      So we moved on with our trip, riding the 4x4 jeep.  The ride was so bumpy that you need to hold on tig...

Revisiting the Spectacular Banaue Rice Terraces

Image
Banaue Rice Terraces (First View Point)         After 9 hours of travel, we arrived in Banaue, Ifugao at 7:30AM.  Still tired and hungry from a very long trip, we rest for a while at Green View Lodge and had our breakfast.      Green View Lodge is a meeting point for backpackers.  The restaurant was packed with backpackers from all over the world.  We even shared a table with Delfina, a French lady who works at Puerto Princesa, Palawan.  Since, my officemate is very friendly and has a sense of humor; she never failed to amuse Delfina.      After a satisfying meal at Green View, we rented a private vehicle to take us to Banaue Rice Terraces Viewpoint, Bay-yo Rice Terraces, and Sagada.  A group of foreign backpackers from Germany, New Zealand, U.S.A, and Australia joined us.      First stop at Banaue Rice Terraces, my second visit to this place, it still amazed me to see the beauti...

Davao and its Beautiful Islands

Image
As we boarded the early flight of Cebu Pacific bound for Davao City, we realized that we were on the same flight with Juris Fernandez and the rest of the crew.  We didn’t get near her because we know that she just came from her last night gig and she was pretty tired then.  So my friends, who happen to be fans, ended up just looking at her.      We arrived in Davao City at 9:40AM and we checked in at Roadway Inn, the same hotel where Juris and her crew stayed also.  The hostel is okay for budget traveler but not that really clean.  There are cobwebs in the ceiling and the paint is already fading.   Good enough that the beddings and towels are clean. Buffet meal at Nanay Bebeng      Known for tourists and locals, Nanay Bebeng located at Dona Vicente Village satisfied our cravings for Filipino food.   Indeed, a very affordable lunch buffet for just Php 295.  Looking at the buffet table, the...

Sagada, Banaue, and Baguio

Image
My summer get-away for 2010 is quite different.  Why I said so?  Normally I go to beautiful beaches in the country to feel the summer heat of the sun.  This time we explored the Cordillera.      From Baguio to Sagada, we passed the paved and non-paved roads and a never ending curved roads.  Though it took us 4 hours to reach Sagada, the trip was still worthwhile as we traversed the top of Cordillera’s spectacular range of mountains, some mini rice terraces, a river beside a rice farm, and surely a different sight to please your eyes. Trekking and Caving at Sagada April 1, 2010     After a long trip, we arrived in Sagada before noon.  During that time, the town was packed with foreign and local tourists, so it took us some time to look for accommodation.  We booked at Green House Inn at a cheap price of Php 500 per night.      As we walked down the main road leading to the caves, we dined...
