Namiseom Island (남이섬 종합휴양지)

Image
I wish my boyfriend was with me when I visited this tiny island of Namiseom.  The park has a romantic settings and it was where the Winter Sonata has been filmed, thus making it a popular destination among lovers and Korean drama fans.      It was fun to walk or bike around with your partner, but I went there with a couple of friends on early winter.  Though, it could have been more colourful and vibrant in autumn or spring.       Towering Poplar and Chestnut trees were lined beautifully along the pathway.  The bridge on the small pond was designed with recycled green bottles.  There were restaurants, shops, accommodations, and art exhibits too.       For a bit of history, I also dropped by the grave of General Nami who fought and won against rebels in the 13 th century of the 7 th king of the Joseon Dynasty, King Sejo (1455-1468).   Admission Fee: 10,...

Jongmyo Shrine (종묘)

Image
Jongjeon houses the spirit tablets of the kings and queens with many accomplishments.      The Koreans have always placed importance in preserving their cultures and traditions.  They preserved and restored well their cultural sites.  One of the most beautiful shrines I’ve seen so far is the Chongmyo Shrine or Jongmyo Shrine.      I loved it and enjoyed every minute and every part of this shrine.  Even the ambiance is so peaceful and cold.  I’m glad my friends granted my wish to visit Jongmyo Shrine, a UNESCO World Heritage site listed in 1995.  It was built by King Taejo of Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910) and embodies Confucian ideals.      Jongmyo Shrine houses the spirit tablets of the kings and queens of the Joseon Dynasty.  In addition to the tablet, there is a panel listing of king's accomplishment.      From the entrance, the slightly raised path called samdo path will lead y...
