Macau: Historic and Modern Structures

Image
We arrived in Macau on Sept. 9 at around 10:30 PM.  Since one of my companions has a friend in Macau, she helped us find a nice hotel right in the center of the city.      We checked in at East Asia Hotel located in Rua da Madeira for only MOP 850 per night.  This older hotel’s prime location is just 5 minutes walk from Macau’s Historic Centre – Senado Square which makes it a good choice for budget travelers like us.      The next day, we woke up early to start our sight seeing around Macau.  But before that we looked first for a money changer to change our remaining HK dollars to Pataca.  We found one not that far from our hotel .      While walking on our way to KFC, we saw this new grand building of Casino Lisboa and in front of it was the old building.  After 15 minutes walk, we saw the Circle of Arc, and from there you could see the Guia Fort and Lighthouse stands on the Guia Hill.  The fort was built in 1637, the lighthouse which is still in use, in 1865.      After

Hong Kong: Thrills and Fun

Image
Last September 7-9, 2008, we used all our energy for everyday whole day of fun, thrills, and adventure in Hong Kong.  So many attractions to see, to dine and shop.      First stop is Hong Kong Ocean Park.  The land area is so big that we were not able to check some other rides.          To my surprise I bumped with my cousins and nephews.  I had no idea that they will be in Hong Kong too!  I also saw my officemate and celebrities Alex Crisano and Ethel Booba.  We left the Ocean Park at around 6PM and proceeded to our next trip at The Peak.      The following day we shopped at Citygate.  In the evening, at Temple Market and Jade Market.  We became a shopaholic in two days because of Hong Kong Summer Sale great discounts.      On our last day, we went to Disneyland Resort for a fun and magical experience.  Then, we headed to Macau via ferry boat that night.      Here are the details of the places we have been to. First Day in Hong Kong

New adventures, new world to explore.  I thought traveling for the first time outside my country would be a great experience but I encountered a bad experience like any other travelers.      Upon our arrival in Hong Kong International Airport, we lined up to the immigration for visitors.  But one officer ordered us to line up at the last cubicle.  Since we don’t understand her English accent, we just followed her only to find out that the last cubicle was for overseas workers.  We returned at the visitor’s line and we were stopped again by that officer.  That was the time I complained that how come we could not line there since we are all visitors.  Anyway, she apologized for her mistake.      After the four of us passed the immigration, one of our companions was held.  We waited for her for almost 2 hours.  According to her, they interviewed first the Chinese and Caucasian people even if she came first.  So much hassle, we got really tired and disappointed with their servic

Stoked in San Juan

Last May 2008, my bestfriend and I, suddenly became interested in going to San Juan, La Union, where the good waves is.  We left Manila at the ungodly hour of 4AM, and nine hours later, we found ourselves in San Juan.      We stayed at Normi’s Beachfront Resort, owned by a Filipina and French couple.  Though the resort was just 15 minutes ride to the camp site, it was still for the better because the bungalows were in native style, cool, clean, with comfortable bed, and with swimming pools.  They offer surfing lesson managed by Liquid Body Surf Camp ( www.liquid-body.com ).      After our lunch, we were so tired from our long bus ride, so we had our two hours sleep first to regain our energy.  At 4PM we headed to the surf camp to learn surfing.      The beach has dark gray sand, blue clean waters, and waves as high as one meter.  Resorts line up the beach from expensive to the affordable one.  Surfing boards can be rented at the resorts.  Local and foreign surfers were on

Pagudpud and Bangui Wind Mills

Day 1 (April 5, 2008)      It was an 11-hour travel from Manila to Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte via RCJ bus.  We arrived there on April 5, 9AM, and stayed as homestay beside Polaris Beach Resort at Saud Beach.      We started at 2PM the same day we arrived at the province.  We rented Manong Ronald’s tricycle for 600 pesos only for a tour to Blue Lagoon, Bantay Abot Cave, Patapat Bridge, and Kabigan Falls. Kapuluan Beach Resort      First on our itinerary is the Kapuluan Beach Resort.  We just inquired about the room availability and to see if the place is accessible.  The resort is quite beautiful with nipa hut cottages around and a small swimming pool.  Good for honeymooners at a reasonable cost.   Just make sure you drive there with your own car since the place is not accessible. Blue Lagoon Beach      Next is the Blue Lagoon beach, located just before the Kapuluan Beach Resort.  The white sand beach is in cove shape and looks perfect with its blue sea.

Batac and Vigan, Ilocos Sur

Day 2-3 (April 6-7, 2008)      From Pagudpud, we took a bus via Laoag City and rode a jeep via Batac or you could either take a Vigan route bus which is better because they will drop you off in front of Marcos Museum.  Nothing more too see, except for the ex-president preserved corpse and his writings.  After a couple of minutes of taking pictures, we headed off south to Vigan City.  It took us 2 hours to travel from Laoag to Vigan.      When we got there we asked the tricycle driver to drive us to the nearest hotel at heritage site.  We stayed in one of the old Spanish mansions at Grandpa’s Inn.  If only we knew the name of the heritage street we rather stayed at Cordillera’s Inn located at Calle Crisologo.  I’ve really wanted to sleep in an old Spanish mansion but I haven’t tried yet in my great grandpa’s house. Calle Crisologo at night      Calle Crisologo a heritage site boasts the old mansions and buildings way back from Spanish time.  It was like you turn

Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park

Much has been written and said about this World Heritage site in Palawan.      Yet, nothing is more satiable to quench the thirst of enjoying its beauty and splendor unless one explores this enchanting place.      It is believe to be one of the longest navigable underground rivers in the world which features cathedral-like caverns and domes.  The stalactites and stalagmites formation resembles like religious images, fruits, and birds.  Truly, an admirable underworld that project the omnipotence of the Creator over human hands.  The Underground River is home to other cove dwelling fauna.      Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991 and voted as New 7 Wonders of Nature in 2012.  It is located in the West Coast of Palawan, 80 kilometers north of Puerto Princesa City.  The land form in the park are associated with rocky mountains (of marble and limestone) running from north to south.      Two-thirds of the area is c
